My Weekend

Every weekend is so much fun! I really look forward to Friday after school. As soon as I get home, I drop my backpack and head outside to play. My neighborhood is full of kids my age, so there's always somebody around to run around with.

On Fridays, we often play kickball or tag in the court across the street from my house. We make up all sorts of crazy rules and boundaries. Like you're only safe if you stand on one leg, or you can't go past the maple tree at the end of the block. The games go on for hours until our parents call us in for dinner.

After dinner, if it's still light out, we'll go back outside. A bunch of neighbors have trampolines in their backyards, so we'll take turns jumping on those. I love doing flips and seeing who can jump the highest. My friend Ryan is the best at trampoline tricks - he can do backflips and front flips easily. I'm not quite there yet, but I'm practicing!

When it finally gets dark, we head inside. My parents let me play video games or watch a movie and eat snacks on Friday nights as a treat. Sometimes my friends come over too and we have sleepovers. We build forts in the living room out of blankets

and pillows, then camp out in there telling stories and jokes until we fall asleep.

Saturdays are my favorite day of the weekend. I sleep in as late as I want, then have pancakes or waffles for breakfast. Yum! After breakfast, I get dressed and my dad takes me and my brother to the park. We take our scooters, bikes, or rollerblades and spend hours riding around.

The park near our house has a great playground too. We run and climb and swing and slide. Sometimes I take a break and read a book while sitting on the park bench. Other times I'll play catch or frisbee with my dad while my brother keeps riding around. The park always has a bunch of other kids playing too which is fun.

In the afternoons, I might have a soccer game or a birthday party to go to. My soccer games are my favorite - I play defense and I'm really good at stealing the ball from the other team. My coach says I have a talent for sneaking in and taking it. I celebrate wildly every time I get the ball away too, probably a little too much according to my parents!

Sundays are a bit more low-key. We go to church in the morning, which I don't love, but at least I get to see my friends there. The kid's program at church is okay - we sing songs, read

bible stories, and do craft projects. My favorite is when we get to act out the stories. I make a great Moses parting the Red Sea! After church, we often go out for a family lunch at a restaurant. I always get the kid's meal with chicken nuggets. Once we're home in the afternoon, I work on any homework I have left over from the week. I really dislike that part of Sunday, but my parents insist I can't just leave it for Monday morning. If the weather is nice, we'll spend a few hours outside as a family - throwing a frisbee, kicking a ball around, or going for a walk around the neighborhood. Dad loves pointing out all the different kinds of birds and trees to us. I've learned a ton from him about nature.

As the evening rolls around, we'll have a family dinner together. We all take turns saying the best and worst parts of our week, which I enjoy. It's fun to hear my parents' highs and lows from work and my brother's stories from school.

After dinner is my favorite time - we snuggle up as a family to watch a movie together. We make popcorn and hot chocolate, and relax on the couch under warm blankets. I cherish those cozy evenings. Too soon, it's time for bed and the weekend is over.

Weekends go by so quickly! I love the freedom of having no school and getting to choose my own activities. Playing outside, having sleepovers, going to the park, sports and birthday parties - the weekend is packed with fun. I'm always just a little sad when Monday morning comes around. But I know another great weekend is just a few days away!
