I do agree with the author. Nowadays, there are many problems belong college undergraduates, not only in America, but also all over the world.

As the author said, today’students have ambiguous feeling about what role in the world. They are devoting their energies to what seems most real to them, such as the pursuit of security and the accumulation of material goods. They do not know where should they put their faith in this uncertain age. They are torn by idealism of service and the temptation to retreat into a world that never rises above self-interests.

Particularly in China, students only know to study hard, but never tend to constructively about the agenda of government. More and more parents set great store by education of children. So children who lose happy childhood have no choice but to pay more time and energies to live up to the expectations of parents. For the purpose of the present publication, it is convenient to divide education in China into four categories: primary education, secondary education, higher education and adult education. Because of the large population in China, the education system emphasises on the grade of students. The more popular the major is, the higher the required grade is. However, students can choose their major mainly depends on their interest. The institutionalized education limits students' thought to a narrow range and inhibits the development of students character. There are also lots of competition in China. Students need to take

tutorial classes and learn further knowledge ahead of time; otherwise, they can not get better grades than others and will be blame on.

According to what the author said, the quality of the undergraduate experience is to be measured by the willingness of graduates to be socially and civically engaged, other worlds, the college graduate has civic obligations to fulfill. But non-specialists can’t debate policy choices of consequence when they do not even know the language. So, our college underguates are very important to a country’s democracy as well as it’s development.
