My View on 996。
In recent years, the 996 work schedule has become a hot topic in China's tech industry. 996 refers to working from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., six days a week. Some companies have even implemented a 997 work schedule, which means working from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week. While some people argue that 996 is necessary for the growth of the industry, I believe that it is an unfair and unsustainable work schedule.
Firstly, 996 violates the labor law. According to China's labor law, the standard working hours should not exceed 44 hours per week. The 996 work schedule requires employees to work 72 hours per week, which is 28 hours more than the legal limit. This not only puts employees' health at risk but also violates their legal rights.
Secondly, 996 is not sustainable in the long run. While
some people may argue that working long hours can increase productivity, studies have shown that working too many hours can lead to burnout, decreased productivity, and even health problems. Employees who work long hours are more likely to suffer from stress, anxiety, and depression, which can have a negative impact on their work performance and personal life.
Moreover, 996 is unfair to employees. Employees who work long hours are often not compensated for their overtime work. Some companies may offer a higher salary to employees who work 996, but this does not justify the long hours and the negative impact on employees' health and well-being. In addition, the 996 work schedule may also discriminate against employees who have family responsibilities or health issues.
In conclusion, while the tech industry may benefit from the 996 work schedule in the short term, it is not a sustainable or fair work schedule. Employers should respect their employees' legal rights and well-being, and provide a work-life balance that allows employees to thrive both
professionally and personally. It is important to create a healthy and sustainable work environment that benefits everyone involved.
