对立观点型

1 Direction: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay on the topic: Starting Career in a Big City or Small Town? You should write at least 150 words following the outline given below in Chinese:

1. 很多的大学生毕业后留在大城市工作; 2. 也有人选择到小城镇开始自己的职业生涯; 3. 结合自己的实际情况谈谈自己的想法。 范文:

Want to be a small fish in a big pond or the other way round? Every graduate faces this question when starting his career. A large number of college graduates prefer to stay in big cities, which mean more experiences, more opportunities to see the big world and more space for career development. At the same time, higher salary is another temptation.

But some other graduates intend to start in small towns. Even though there may not be many big companies, they can have a quieter and less competitive life. Another reason is that they can be a big fish in a small pond. They can easily get the management’s attention and may win promotion earlier.

As far as I am concerned, I prefer to start in a metropolis like Shanghai. A good begin is half the battle, and in Shanghai I can find a job in a big company where I can meet people from different places and cultures. I will learn from them what I can not get from textbooks.

2 Direction: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay on the topic: Should Universities Lower Admission Requirements for Celebrities? You should write at least 150 words following the outline given below in Chinese: 1. 最近一些大学为社会名流降低入学门槛; 2. 有人支持,有人反对; 3. 我的看法。 范文:

In recent years, many famous universities lower admission requirements for celebrities. More and more celebrities, especially sports stars, have been admitted to famous universities even without an entry examination. This phenomenon has become a subject of widespread controversy. Some people object strongly that universities lower admission requirements for celebrities. They hold that this admission pattern will damage the basic fairness rule of education. In addition, they say that if a person who has not enough academic ability is admitted to the university, it would be an insult on college education. However, still other people think it acceptable. They say that these celebrities deserve this privilege because they have proved their abilities in their field. Besides, in their opinions, these celebrities to some extent set a good model for other young people.

Weighing these two arguments, I prefer the latter one. For one thing, these celebrities have sacrificed much learning time for their work, so they should be provided a better chance for learning. For another, if they accept advanced education, they could serve the society better. Therefore, I suggest that people should pay more attention to these celebrities’ efforts and contributions rather than the special treatment they enjoy.

3 My View on Writing a Blog

1. 越来越多的大学生以写博客来记录生活,表达感情,发表意见 2. 有人支持,有人反对 3. 我的看法

More and more college students are becoming bloggers. They keep blogs to note down what happens to them, to describe their emotions and feelings, and to express opinions on current affairs.

There are different views regarding this phenomenon. Some people think it’s a good idea for college students to keep a blog. They say blogs do not only provide an outlet for the students' inner feelings like traditional diaries, but also provide a channel through which young people can communicate with another. Others think differently. They are afraid that some students have spent too much time on their blogs, trying hard to win clicks and replies. Therefore both their academic work and their everyday interpersonal relationships may suffer.

In my opinion, both views are reasonable. While writing blogs are advisable, the students also need to be aware of its potential shortcomings

4 On College Students’ Occupying Seats 1.在大学校园里,占座是很普遍的现象

2.有人认为,大学生课前占座是不文明的行为,也有人持不同意见 3.我的看法

On campus, it is a common phenomenon for students to occupy seats. In the library, classrooms, and even the canteen, you can find books and pens claiming the temporary usage of the tables and seats.

This issue has aroused public concern. Some people hold that it is wrong and impolite behavior which should be fought with, while others argue that students should not take the blame since colleges fail to provide sufficient teaching resources.

There is probably some truth in both sides. As to me, I’m in favor of the former argument. For one thing, occupying seats inevitably worsens the problem of resource shortage. The seats will remain empty until the occupiers come. For another, taking up seats dose harm to the harmonious campus atmosphere when friendship and modesty give way to improper competition. Therefore, I strongly oppose this kind of act.

5 On Students Running an Online Shop 1. 很多大学生在业余时间开网店赚钱 2. 有人支持,有人反对 3. 我的看法

Recently, it is frequently reported that a student can earn 60 ’000 a month by running an online shop. His business idea has inspired many students to set up their own online shops.

Some people hold that doing that, students can gain not only some money to reduce financial burden for their family but also the precious experience of setting up a business. Most important of all, the competition in the job market is very fierce currently. If students cannot find a satisfactory job after graduation, an online shop can help them earn their living. While others hold that the duty of a student is to study. Running an online shop will definitely distract students from their primary tasks. It equals to putting the cart before the horse.

From my perspective,I am in favor of the former opinion. I agree that in college acquiring

knowledge is of critical importance. However, acquiring practical skills and the ability to survive is even more important. In a word,as long as a student can balance the two sides well, running a business in the school years should not be discouraged.

6 On Idol Worshipping

1. 许多青少年将娱乐明星当作崇拜偶像 2. 对此现象不同的人有不同的看法 3. 我对此事的分析和看法

Idol worshipping is not a new phenomenon, but the recent cases of unreasonable behaviors conducted by some young people have made it a focus of attention again. Especially, a young girl's father has committed suicide just to wake up his daughter who is possessed by the idea of following her idol wherever he goes.

Some people argue that the mass media is to blame for the tragedy. The media always show a picture of glamorous movie stars, pop singers and all the other entertainers. They represent a lifestyle that young people desire to have, while the young people are just not mature enough to distinguish the reality from the dream. Other people believe that it shows the weakness of our educational system. The school pays much attention on their studies and exams, while overlooks their psychological status.

As far as I am concerned, the tragedy sends out an alarm signal to us all. The media, the school, the parents and even the youth themselves have to reflect on the issue and try to stop such kind of tragedy from happening again

7 Opinion on Campus Marriage 1.国家允许在校学生结婚 2.在校学生结婚对学生的影响 3.你的观点

There has always been a controversy: are Chinese on-campus students allowed to get married before graduation? Now the answer is yes.

To this decision, some people applaud as humanistic, while some others don't agree. Certainly a large number of people just cannot decide which side they should take. But, it does affect college students. To be married, they must consider many extra problems, such as time to get together, place to live, the cost of home maintenance, birth control, etc.

In my opinion, it is unnecessary to ban campus marriage, but it should not be advocated or encouraged either because the main task of on-campus students is to study. If they get married, their school work will be affected and they may not be capable of future works. So, a reasonable mind is especially needed to deal with the problem.

8 Should College Students Be Involved in Business Activities? 1. 现在有许多大学生参与商业活动

2. 对大学生是否应该参与商业活动有许多说法 3. 我的看法

In recent years, a new phenomenon has quietly sprung up—college students participating in business activities.

Inevitably, like many other newly-emerged things, this has also received praise and criticism. From my viewpoint, if the students can put what they have learned in school into practice or integrate their major with social activities, it is an important and valuable opportunity for them. But if they are just obsessed with the activities, that is, their exclusive goal is to earn money or to satisfy their excessive pride, it is not a wise action, and may even lead to some unexpected trouble. What’s more if the students neglect their study, then it is no doubt putting the card before the horse. College students who are involved in business activities should make clear to themselves the purpose of doing so, and make full use of the opportunity.

9 Do Libraries Become Useless At The Age Of Information? 1. 有些人认为信息时代不再需要传统图书馆了,因为…… 2. 有些人认为信息时代传统图书馆仍然有重要作用,因为…… 3. 你的看法

There has been a heated discussion about libraries at the age of information among people. Some people, especially the younger generation, challenge the value of conventional libraries. When they need any information in their studies or work, they can turn to their computers for help. For this reason, they do not need to go to a library for borrowing or returning one or two books. While others, including most old people as well as scholars, value libraries. They love libraries because they can enjoy peace and quietness in an isolated spiritual world. And they also have access to rare academic works needed for their studies in the libraries.

In my view, conventional libraries are still available though there is still much room for improving. At the Age of Information, as long as knowledge is respected and cherished, libraries won’t extinct from our lives. On the other hand, libraries should not refuse the latest information technology, which will enable them to regain those young readers.

10 Should the Separation of Science and Arts Subjects Be Ended in High Schools? 1. 目前,许多地区的高中仍存在文理分科的现象 2. 有人表示反对,而有人表示支持 3. 以我自己为例

Recently, there is a heated discussion about whether the separation of science and arts subjects should be ended in high schools, and opinions vary greatly.

Some people advocate the ending of the separation of science and arts. They claim that the separation of subjects is not good for students to develop their overall quality which is needed in the modern society. Besides, students can also have two different ways of thinking by learning both arts and science subjects. It will benefit them a lot in their future life. While others hold that the ending of the separation of subjects will doubtlessly put more pressure and burdens on students. They believe the fewer subjects students study, the more they can focus on what they major in.

As a liberal arts student in high school, I find it difficult to learn Economy and Management due to the lack of science background, but I am quite interested in it. Therefore, I think it is high

time that we should end the separation of arts and science subjects in high schools.

How to Eliminate Cheating on Campus 1. 当前校园中存在许多作弊现象 2. 解决这一问题的办法是…… 【范文】

Nowadays, instead of listening attentively in class and working hard after class, a number of students adopt all kinds of dishonest methods to get high scores in examinations. It has become such a serious problem that it has aroused the concern from the whole society.

To put an end to such a serious problem, in my mind, it calls for the efforts from all sides. First of all, the university authority should make it clear that any cheating behaviors in the examinations, from whispering and copying, receiving answers via mobile phones to asking ringers for help, will be severely punished with no exception. Moreover, teachers of all subjects should go all the way to restore honesty by setting an example for the youth through speaking sincerely and behaving truthfully. Last but not least, young students, the future of our nation, should view integrity as the prerequisite to an upright and responsible citizen so as to learn to despise and fight dishonest behaviors throughout the society.

How can anybody expect to lead a meaningful life until he is far from any kind of cheating behaviors? Only when all of us join in the efforts of eliminating cheating at all levels can we expect to have a cleaner society and a more beautiful future.

Make Our City Greener 1. 城市绿化的现状 2. 绿化的好处

3. 怎样才能实现绿化 【范文】

In recent years our citied have become much greener. A lot of trees, grasses and flowers were planted in vacant lots and on both sides of the street. The area of urban afforestation per person has been greatly increased.

There are a lot of advantages for urban afforestation. First, trees, grasses and flowers ca make the city more beautiful, for natural plants are well matched with artificial buildings. Secondly, plants can purify air in the city because they not only absorb carbon dioxide and the flying dust but also release oxygen. Thirdly, plants can muffle noises produced by vehicles and machines. Finally, trees can make the climate better in that they can alleviate intense heat in summer and cold in winter.

Therefore, special care must be taken to make our city greener. From my point of view, first we should make people aware of the importance of making cities greener. Besides, great efforts should be made to plant more trees, grasses, and flowers. Meanwhile, we should carefully look after the planted trees, grasses and flowers and no one is allowed to destroy these plants. So long as we do so, we can certainly make our cities greener.

Getting to Know the World outside the Campus

1. 大学生了解社会的必要性 2. 了解社会的途径 3. 我打算怎么做 【范文】

With the development of our society, the campus is no longer an “ivory tower” and students cannot merely confine themselves to the campus. It’s time for them to go out of the campus and know the world outside the “ivory tower”. For one thing, it can help students have a better understanding of themselves, so that they can modify their way in studies. For another, it will lay a solid foundation for their future career. Finally, they can enhance their abilities in management, organization and so on.

There are many ways for students to get to know the outside world. First, they can know the world from mass media, such as newspaper, TV, radio, magazines and advertisements which provide information about political events, social news, the latest development in science and technology and so forth. Second, they can know the world from social services, such as job-hunting and tutorship, which grant students wide opportunities to know the society. Third, students can also make some investigation in factories and villages, talking with the workers or farmers to learn their experiences.

As a student, I think the first thing I should do is to study hard to lay a good foundation for my future job. The other thing I can do is to take some part-time jobs to gain personal experience about the world outside the campus.

Problem of Piracy 1. 盗版现象日益严重 2. 盗版造成的不良后果 3. 我对抵制盗版蔓延的看法 【范文】

Nowadays, the problem of piracy has become more and more serious. Books, tapes, VCDs and other high-tech products have been pirated. For instance, when a new product comes onto market, most probably, its pirated counterpart will soon on its appearance in the market, too.

Piracy has caused a great loss to legitimate producers, inventors and writers in many ways. To start with, the pirated products often cost much less than the genuine ones so that they enjoy a better trading position in spite of their relatively poor quality. The genuine books, sometimes, do great harm to the authors’ reputation duo to some misprints. In the long run, pirated products may have a negative impact on customers because those legitimate producers’ creativity and enthusiasm may be deeply hurt by the fact that some customers are more interested in the pirated products for the sake of small gains.

In my opinion, it’s high time that everyone started the battle against piracy. First, customers should develop their consciousness to resist the pirated products. Besides, the government should take effective measures to put an end to piracy. Finally, laws must be strictly enforced to completely ban piracy. Only in this way can we wipe the pirated products out of our life.

College English Teaching in China

1. 有人认为中国的大学英语教学很不成功 2. 认为失败的原因是……

3. 你的建议 【范文】

Nowadays, there are more and more people complaining that English teaching at college is a complete failure. After four-year English learning, most graduates can’t properly communicate with foreigners, nor can they translate between languages, let alone write in English. Where do the problems lie?

To some extent, I think, it is reasonable for those people to say so. To begin with, English teaching at college is, in a large degree, teacher-centered. It is still not uncommon in the classroom that the teacher explains every point in detail, while students take notes at times. Secondly, culture is neglected in English teaching because of poor text design. With a great deal of grammar and structure exercises in the textbook, students are misled into memorizing a large vocabulary and a lot of English rules. Few students know how, when and where to use them properly. Finally, test-oriented education, in a sense, misleads and impedes college English teaching in China. For instance, college English Test Band Four is so overemphasized in some college that teachers strive to meet the needs of the test, sacrificing learning for the sake of test results, and students only learn how to pass the examination.

In conclusion, Chinese college English teaching is to be reformed. English teaching should be student-centered, culture should be introduced in language teaching, and textbooks should be well designed to arouse students’ interest in learning to communicate in English.

Fire Accidents in Big Cities 1. 火灾的现状 2. 火灾的主要起因 3. 阻止火灾发生的建议 【范文】

In recent years there has been an amazing increase in fire accidents in big cities in our country. Fires have not only resulted in heavy economic losses but also injured and killed many people.

What caused this problem? I think the causes of fire accidents can be listed as follows. Firstly, some people are careless or violate the fire safety regulations when operating some electrical appliances. Secondly, some fire accidents are caused by the poor quality of household electrical appliances. Finally, there are many premises, such as private net bars, department stores, recreation centers, which focus so much on profits as to ignore the importance of fire protection.

In order to minimize fire accidents, we should, first of all, foster people’s awareness of the importance of fire prevention. Then, a special department should be set up to inspect whether or not those public places have installed adequate fire engines and facilities. If not, they should be fined. Finally, we have to increase the number of professional fire fighters. Only in this way can we ensure a reliable fire prevention system.

Reemployment of Laid-off Workers 1. 下岗工人再就业问题有待解决

2. 解决方法有重视发展第三产业和为下岗职工举行再就业培训 3. 解决问题的动力来自政府和下岗工人双方 【范文】

With the deepening of economic reform, China is now faced with a big problem---large numbers of staff have been made redundant. There is no doubt that it would lead to endless trouble like social instability if the surplus were not reorganized properly.

Confronted with such a serious problem, we should take a series of measures to cope with the situation. First of all, the tertiary industry should be firstly take into account, since it provides many job opportunity without too many restrictions such as age, cultural background, gender differences and so on. Besides, we should set up various vocational training courses for laid-off workers. And laid-off workers are most likely able to take jobs in other fields as they have acquired much knowledge, thus becoming well qualified.

To my mind, to solve the problem is a two-way operation as far as government and laid-off workers are concerned. On the one hand, government at all levels should try every possible means to create a wide range of employment options open to laid-off workers; on the other hand, laid-off workers ought not to sit idle and wait for opportunities to come. So long as they don’t lose heart and constantly strive to overcome present difficulties, they will definitely have a bright future.

The Energy Problem

1. 能源短缺的问题引起人们的关注 2. 解决方法之一:实行节能 3. 解决方法之二:开发新的能源 【范文】

Energy is one of the biggest problems that have aroused wide concern among the public. Many far-sighted scholars and scientists have pointed out that natural resources are very limited. If we keep consuming our resources at the present rate, the world will soon be on the edge of a serious energy crisis threatening mankind’s survival. So from now on, we will have to make serious and continuous efforts to practice economy in using energy and cut down on waste of any form so as to slow down the present drain on our limited resources. Otherwise, we will leave our descendants a devastated world and a vast stretch of wasteland.

But this is not all the answer. The best way to keep human beings far away from the energy crisis is to develop new sources of energy. It is obvious that even if we save much energy by using it in a controlled way, our natural resources, however abundant, will run out eventually. And when they are gone they are gone forever, for resources cannot reproduce themselves. To find new supplies in unexplored areas seems to be the only way out or our predicament.

说明利弊型:

TOPIC 1:The Necessity of Examination

For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled The Necessity of Examination. You should write at least 120 words following the outlined given below. 1. 考试存在的必要性 2. 考试的弊端

3. 学生应当树立正确的考试态度

The Necessity of Examination

As regards examination, there has been a heated discussion among the general public in our society. People who believe in its necessity may have some arguments as follows. To begin with, examination helps to tell the better-behaved from the worse-behaved students.

What’s more, examination may stimulate the students to work harder. Take Xiao Wang as an example, a student from Hubei University, he used to have a poor command of English. However, under the pressure of College English Test Band 4, he made great progress and can speak fluent English now.

By contrast, some people think that examination may give rise to series of negative effects. They maintain that examination can not always faithfully reflect one’s study performance. It is believed that too many students maybe misled and neglect the improvement of practical ability. Examples of “high marks but poor competence” are often cited on different media.

Just as any coin has two sides, it’s no exception with the issue of examination. Students should develop a right attitude toward it and strike a balance between examination and practical ability achievement.

TOPIC 2: Should We Learn English from Primary School?

For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled Should We Learn English from Primary School? You should write at least 120 words following the outlined given below.

1. 有人认为学习英语越早越好,所以小学就开设英语课 2. 也有人认为从小学学英语不一定很好 3. 我的观点

Should We Learn English from Primary School?

Nowadays, many primary schools give English courses from the first grade. It is commonly believed that the earlier children begin to study a foreign language, the better they can master it, so the English class in primary schools is necessary. What’s more, studies show that schoolchildren are more likely to cultivate an interest and love in English learning rather than to study it as a boring task.

But other people take a negative attitude. They don’t think language study in early age could foster the top language master. On the contrary, if children begin to study English too early, their study of chines would be interfered, and the result is that both their mother tongue and English would be poor. It is true that many children in the first grade always confuse English letters with the Pinyin.

Consequently, I have to agree that English class in primary school is good for children in language learning, but we should not ignore its week points. So English class in primary schools is good and the class beginning from the fourth grade would be better.

TOPIC 3:On Overseas Study

For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled On Overseas Study. You should write at least 120 words following the outlined given below. 1. 有人认为好处多 2. 有人反对这种观点 3. 我的看法

On Overseas Study

Like anything else, overseas study has both advantages and disadvantages. The main benefits of studying overseas are as follows. In the first place, the overseas students can

benefit greatly from the higher academic level and the more advanced research facilities in some famous universities. In the second place, it’s the best way to understand a new culture and its people and language. Last but not least, the experience will be invaluable to character building, making most students more independent, diligent and enterprising.

However, the negative effects are also obvious. To begin with, if a person does not make full preparation before going abroad, he will have great difficulty adapting to the new environment. What’s more, the cultural differences will hinder the regular life in many ways. Finally, money is always a big problem. Many students have to find part-time jobs to earn money to pay tuition and fees.

In conclusion, the advantages of overseas study outweigh its disadvantages. Once they return home, the overseas students will make great contribution to our motherland.

TOPIC4: Should Teachers Be Made to Take the Same Exams as Students?

For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled Should Teachers Be Made to Take the Same Exams as Students? You should write at least 120 words following the outlined given below.

1. 有些人认为老师与学生一同参加考试有利 2. 另外一些人认为这样作弊大于利

Should Teachers Be Made to Take the Same Exams as Students?

Some people support the practice that teachers are made to take the same exams alongside their students. They believe it is a serious wake-up call to teachers, who should show their enthusiasm for learning and set a good example for the students.

However, opponents largely outnumber supporters on this issue. In their opinions, the major task of a teacher is to effectively transfer knowledge and skills to students in an interesting way. Moreover, teachers may have a disadvantage in terms of memory and response strength, in comparison to younger minds.

In my opinion, having teachers take the same exams with their students is a helpful practice. First, teachers can realize some confusing problems in the process and in turn make the questions more acceptable. Then, by going through the tests, teachers may find the points where students tend to make repeated mistakes and therefore emphasize these points in future lessons. In a word, these improvements can be of great benefit to the students.

TOPIC 5:Should Internet Jargons Be Allowed in Examinations?

For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled Should Internet Jargons Be Allowed in Examinations? You should write at least 120 words following the outlined given below.

1. 一些人赞成学生在考试时使用网络语言

2. 但反对者也认为这一做法有悖于标准汉语的使用 3. 提出自己的意见

Should Internet Jargons Be Allowed in Examinations?

In recent years, heated debates have been wrestling with the issue of whether to allow Internet jargons in examinations or not. Supporters say Net-speak is a revolution, talking the traditional language expression head on. Meanwhile, this new style of language reflects the user’s personality, imagination, creativity and freethinking.

While some believe that examinations should say yes to Net-speak, others argue that Internet jargons should be prevented in exams. Examinations are designed to evaluate students’ ability to use the Chinese language in its standard form, but the web language is causal and informal. Moreover, Internet jargons may lead to misunderstandings and confusions.

For my part, I stand on the side of the latter opinion. As is known to all, examinations are supposed to maintain their formality and standard format, to which Internet jargons will surely do harm. Besides, Internet jargons can just make sense to a certain group of people rather than prevail among the whole society. Consequently, it is improper to allow Internet jargons in examinations.

TOPIC 6:My View on Off-campus Room Renting

For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled My View on Off-campus Room Renting. You should write at least 120 words following the outlined given below. 1.很多大学生选择在校外租房住 2. 学生校外租房的主要原因 3. 校外租房的利弊

My View on Off-campus Room Renting

Nowadays, an increasing number of college students choose to rent rooms or apartments off campus instead of living in dormitories on campus.

There are probably three reasons for the popularity of room renting. Firstly, it seems the best solution for students who cannot adjust to dormitory life and show incompetence in roommate relations. Secondly, many a senior lives outside to make better preparations for the thesis or examination. Finally, room renting means freedom to some students, who hate to be regulated by school rules.

It’s obvious that living off campus provides some convenience, more favorable m conditions, for example. However, the disadvantages far outweigh the advantages in this case. Room renting is money-consuming for students. And escape is never the correct way out of maladjustment. Besides, too much freedom may result in indulgence and idleness. Therefore, we must think twice when considering living off campus.

TOPIC 7:On College Students Taking Part-time Jobs

For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled On College Students Taking Part-time Jobs. You should write at least 120 words following the outlined given below. 1. 两方不同观点的利弊 2. 我的看法

On College Students Taking Part-time Jobs

Nowadays more and more people voice growing concern over college students’ taking part-time jobs. Some people argue that it is unquestionably beneficial to the students in that it can enlarge their horizon and enrich their experience, while others firmly hold that part-time jobs of all kinds are harmful since they will hinder the students’ normal college study.

Personally, I think this question should be probed in depth. On the one hand, the first group is not totally correct because not all part-time jobs are beneficial. Students are somewhat immature and easily led astray by those money-addicted employers. On the other

hand, the second opinion seems not so satisfactory because we also witness successful examples of students starting from part-time jobs home and abroad. Early working experience can be invaluable as the preparation for future career.

From what has been discussed above, we can see clearly that the key les in whether the students are able to strike a successful between work and study. Otherwise, the college life will be caught in the so-called vicious circle no matter whether the students take part-time jobs or not.

TOPIC 8:Should Dialect Be Made Compulsory Course?

For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled Should Dialect Be Made Compulsory Course? You should write at least 120 words following the outlined given below. 1. 一些地方大学计划将方言学习列为必修课 2. 有些人认为…有些人认为… 3. 我的观点

Should Dialect Be Made Compulsory Course?

Recently, it has been practiced by local universities that dialect is made a compulsory course for some students, under which students are subject to learning the local dialect and then graded as one of the judging factors for them to graduate. Considering the particularity and locality of the dialect, people’s opinions on such practice divert greatly.

On the one hand, people approving the practice maintain that it will help to prevent the dialect from extinguishing so that the local traditional culture and the culture diversity can be enhanced and the unique urban identity can be preserved simultaneously.

On the other hand, people in opposition to the practice contend that it will give rise to the appearance of educational inequality, for the local students will enjoy absolute advantages over those form the other places; moreover, the inclusion of dialect in compulsory courses will bring forth other problems like teaching material, teachers and examination standards.

As far as I am concerned, dialects, as an indispensable part of local culture as well as a tool for communication, can be acquired and used voluntarily not compulsorily.

TOPIC 9:My View on TV Shopping

For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled My View on TV Shopping. You should write at least 120 words following the outlined given below. 1. 电视购物非常普遍 2. 电视购物的利弊

3. 如何合理利用电视购物

My View on TV Shopping

Nowadays, with the fast development of mass media networks, people are experiencing unprecedented convenience of handling daily matters. TV shopping programs, for example, have made shopping so simple that it has become a fashion and trend that can hardly resist.

However, everything can be a double-edged sword and TV shopping program is no exception. TV shopping has its advantages. Firstly, it is very convenient for consumers to make their purchase without going out and walking wearily from one shop window to another. Secondly, compared with paper advertisement, TV shopping programs show us the goods

more vividly. When it comes to disadvantages, it seems that we, as consumers, can hear and see what is presented, but stand a narrow chance of knowing for sure what the goods are really like, and sometimes these salesmen just sweet talk us into buying what we do not need or something of poor quality.

While making good use of TV shopping programs, we should be rational about what is advertised on TV and spend our money in a reasonable and cost-effective way.

TOPIC 10:Will Telecommunicating Job Become Popular?

For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled Will Telecommunicating Job Become Popular? You should write at least 120 words following the outlined given below. 1. 有人认为远程办公将成为未来的发展趋势 2. 也有人认为远程办公有着不可避免的不足 3. 我的观点

Will Telecommunicating Job Become Popular?

The rapid development of the Internet has enabled more and more people to turn to telecommuting job instead of going to the office every day. These people hold that home working can be convenient, flexible and liberating. Another big benefit of telecommuting job is they can get rid of the interpersonal of coworkers as well as the treatment of complex interpersonal relations. Thus, these supporters believe that telecommuting job will be a tendency in workplace.

However, opponents of telecommuting job don’t think it will become a popular working style. In their views, telecommuting job deprives the employees of face-to face communication with others, which is disadvantageous in social life. In addition, once any problem in work arises, it’s impossible to discuss it with others immediately. In that case, telecommuting job can be very difficult and frustrating.

Therefore, I have to say that telecommunicating job, like a coin has two sides. It can provide convenience and satisfaction, but it may bring problems and trouble as well. Hence, telecommuting job still has a long way to go to become popular.

For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled Free E-book: Good or Bad? You should write at least 120 words following the outlined given below. 1. 目前网络上有各种各样的电子书 2. 免费看电子书的利弊 3. 我的看法

Free E-book: Good or Bad?

One of the prominent developments related to the evolution of information technology is the emergence of free e-books online, which are beginning to crop up across the whole Internet. Those e-books do not only involve various fields but update at unprecedented speed. Therefore, it is now even not exaggerating to say free e-book is one of the biggest boons for modern human bestowed by information age.

However, whether e-book is a boon or bane is still a topic in dispute. People showing preference for e-books hold that those intangible resources will provide us with information and knowledge without taking space or costing money; what is more, those e-books can be

easily accessed through Internet, not limited by location; Despite all those merits, there are still people arguing that e-books are inclined to do more than p-books besides, there are infringement problem as for free e-books online.

As far as I’m concerned, free e-books online are the products of information technology and conform to the fast-paced lifestyle, but as for the books with collection value, it is better for us to choose p-books.

阐述主题型

1 Children Are What the Mothers Are 1. 阐明此谚语的含义 2. 说明此现象的原因 3. 谚语给予的启示

Some people say “Children are what the mothers are.” Literally it means the mothers have great influence on their children. Actually, here the mothers refer to not only mothers and fathers, but all the people surrounding us, who play very important roles in the education of the kids.

According to some researches, daily life affects kids enormously. Parents are the best teachers of their children, whose daily behavior and mind have a great effect on their kids. So it is unsurprising that children often reflect their parents like a mirror, and sometimes people even can tell who their parents are without knowing them before. It is true of teachers, friends, and the people the kids contact in daily life.

So it is important for parents to make sure that people around the kids are the ones of good qualities, such as honesty, responsibility, patience and outstanding abilities.

2 Practice Makes Perfect 1.怎样理解“熟能生巧”

2.例如:在英语学习中…… 3.又如……

There is an old saying in China: Practice makes perfect. Practice is a means and perfect is a goal. Only when you do more practice can you make things perfect. This is true not only in our learning but also in other walks of life.

Take the study of English for example. Practice enables us to spell words correctly and master the rules of grammar quickly and practice also makes us become fluent in speaking and writing. It is almost impossible for a person to speak English fluently and accurately without a lot of practice. Another case in point is cooking. A good cook can prepare a delicious meal. But you will not be surprised at his performance if you know how much time he has spent practising. Through practice, he then becomes an expert at cooking.

It goes without saying that practice makes perfect. Only through practice can one be good at doing things. Since we have realized the importance of practice, why not put it into practice?

3 Life-long Learning 1. 你如何看待终身学习

2. 你认为终身学习有哪些方式 3. 你会采取哪种方式

In today's society, life-long learning has become very important for everyone. This is because

one needs to renew his knowledge continuously in order to meet the needs of his work and the fast development of the society.

There are several ways for one to take a life-long learning. One way is to take a part-time education program. The program could be at undergraduate level or graduate level. The second way is to study by oneself. You can learn whatever you need for your work on your own. You can learn from books, TV programs, Internet or radio.

I think we could choose one of the ways mentioned above depending on our own personal preferences and interests. Personally, I prefer the first one because this kind of learning is systematic and formal. And with the help of the teachers, we can study more efficiently.

4 Campus Certificates Craze

1. 目前,大学生们热衷于考取各种各样的证书,“考证热”成为潮流 2. 出现这种现象的原因 3. 我的看法

If you just randomly ask a student on campus what he is busy doing, very possibly,he may answer you he is working for a certificate of some kind. Going further, you will find that this has become a new craze among college students.

The reasons behind the phenomenon can be summarized into just one: the pressure of finding a job after graduation. With the admission expansion of colleges, a lot more graduates have to compete for the limited job posts. How to make oneself more competitive? Maybe more certificates at hand. Hoping that the employers might find one of them attractive, the students are compelled to run from one exam to another.

As far as I am concerned, the students should have a more rational attitude toward certificates because exam certificates do not necessarily represent one's ability. For me, one just should work hard at his or her major. Opportunity will come to you if you are competent enough in your field.

5 The Ideal Assistant in My Mind

1. 大学生的全面成长离不开辅导员的工作 2. 合格的辅导员应具备的职业素质

Political and ideological assistants place a very important role in the education and growth of the college students. Sole academic cultivation does not ensure the making of talents. So, the assistants shoulder the responsibility to foster the students in an all-round way.

In my opinion, to be a good assistant, first, the person must be very knowledgeable and talkative. He must have a solid command of theories and a wide range of interests. Second, he must be patient and considerate. When students have difficulties, he will try every means to give help. Third, a good assistant should be a good adviser and organizer. He must be good at communicating with students and settling mental problems.

Last but not the least, he should have a strong sense of responsibility and be hardworking. That means he must have affection for this job and get ready to devote himself to the education career.

1 Directions: for this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic An Eye-witness Account of a Traffic Accident. You should write at least 120 words, and base your

composition on the outline given below: 1) 车祸发生的时间及地点 2) 你所见到的车祸情况 3) 你对车祸原因的分析

A traffic accident

A week ago, I witnessed a traffic accident in a rainy day on my way to school, which still sticks in my mind.

It was about 7:00 on Friday morning, (Oct. 31st). I was walking through the pedestrian overpass near my school when I was shocked by the screech of a car. I saw a man knocked down by a black car. Soon many cars were jammed there. I got there and found that beside a black Benz lay a middle-aged man in a pool of blood. The street turned chaotic. After a moment, the police and an ambulance arrived. The victim was instantly sent to the hospital.

In my opinion, the pedestrian should have taken the overpass when crossing the street. Besides, the driver might have driven too fast, regardless of such bad weather. Anyway, I believe accidents may be avoided if we become aware of the importance of safety.

2 Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay on the topic The Day My Classmate Fell Ill. You should write at least 120 words following the outline given below in Chinese:

The Day My Classmate Fell Ill

Last year, a terrible flu spread across the whole school. One of my classmate, Xiaoming, became a victim of it. He ran a high fever, and ordinary medicine didn’t work on him.

The news quickly reached everybody in our class. Some classmates recorded the English lessons for him so that he could keep up with his studies. Our English teacher called on him at the weekends sometimes. With care and help, he was soon able to be up and about and finally came back to the class.

From this event, I learn two things. One is that with love, no illness or difficulty is terrible. The other is that love and help are two-way streets. Our classmates offered Xiaoming kind help partly because he himself had always been a helpful person. So I realize that when we help others, we are helping ourselves.

3 Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay in honor of teachers on the occasion of Teacher’s Day. You should write at least 120 words following the outline given below in Chinese:

1) 向老师致以节日祝贺;

2) 从一件难忘的事回忆老师的教诲和无私的奉献; 3) 我如何报答老师的关爱……

Honor for My Teacher

The once per year’s Teacher’s Day will come soon. On this special occasion, all of us students should express our respect and love to our teachers. And I especially want to take this opportunity to show my thanks to my dearest teacher, Mr. Li.

There is one thing that is still vivid in my mind until now. That was in 2001, when the SARS was on. Unfortunately, I was in hospital for a severe cold. Though the doctor had proved I was just suffering from a normal cold, few students or teachers would like to come to see me. However, Mr. Li came to see me every day and cared about me until I recovered.

Every time I remind that experience, I feel deeply his unselfish love and devoting spirit. I must return him with my practical actions. I will, as he does, give others love and help when they are in trouble. I believe that is what he expects me most.

4 Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay on the topic An Unforgettable Memory. You should write at least 120 words following the outline given below in Chinese:

1) 每个人都会有难忘的回忆; 2) 我的一次难忘的回忆的描述; 3) 我会永远珍惜那次回忆。

An Unforgettable Memory

Everyone has an unforgettable memory and cannot remove it. To me, it happened during my last winter holiday, I still remember the whole process vividly. At that time, I was working as an assistant in a computer company.

It was a sunny day and things were awfully dull before it happened. Then, my colleagues drew my attention. I saw them celebrating, and to my delight, they was talking happily about a great success of a project. It did not last very long, but it impressed me so deeply that I would pursue the same profession.

Whenever I look back on what happened that day, I think it is right to pursue success. First of all, no one can deny its ability to bring happiness. Furthermore, it is important for us to cooperate with colleague. I will cherish all these memories forever.

5 Directions: Now you are allowed thirty minutes to write a passage on the title My Best Friend. You should write at least 100-120 words following the outline given below in Chinese: 1) 简要介绍你最好的朋友。 2) 你们之间的故事。 3) 你对朋友的理解。

My Best Friend

Upon the words “best friend”, a figure Jumps into my mind —Zhang Ye—my schoolmate in senior high school and also my best friend. During the three years in high school, we shared countless moments of laughter and tears, joy and sorrow.

She is of medium height and slim figure. Though not strong, she is really a girl with amazing stamina. Despite the similarities in our outlook on life and living, it is always she, the physically weaker one, who encouraged and urged me to finish some tasks when I attempted to give up. When we were preparing for the National Entrance Exam, she cheered me up emotionally and would give me a hand whenever I was in trouble. But for everything she did for me, I couldn’t have had this opportunity to give a decent job with a decent pay. After the exam, she got enrolled by Tsinghua University in Beijing while I went to a college in south China.

For the past several years, we have been in touch and share everything we are experiencing, sad or happy, dull or exciting. True friendship lasts forever. Friendship is a magic. It can melt the

ice in one’s heart and blow away the mist on one’s mind. It can inspire others and outdo the self. I believe the friendship between Zhang Ye and me will be the life-time beacon for both of us.

图表作文

1 Directions: For this part you are allowed thirty minutes to write a composition on the topic Student Use of Computers. You should write at least 120 words and base your composition on the chart and the outline given below.

Great changes have taken place in student use of computers in the university. The hours the student spent on computers per week skyrocketed from about 2 in 1990 to 20 in 2000, more than 9 times higher. This rapid increase proves that students were in closer contact with computers.

To account for this phenomenon, people have come up with various reasons as listed below. In the first place, with the drop in prices of computers, more students could afford computers; therefore they could spend much more time with computers. In the second place, the computers were applied to wider and wider use and students had to take advantage of this modern invention. Last but not the least important, the development of society pushed computers into more dormitories.

Whatever the reason, there are still some problems with student use of computers. To begin with, many students still have no computers of their own. What’s more, many students use computers only to play e-games and browse porn websites, which causes harm to their mind.

2 Directions:For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition of no less than 100 words on Changes in People's Diet?Study the table above carefully and your composition must be based on the information given in the table.Write three paragraphs to

1) state the changes in people's diet in the past five years; 2)give possible reasons for the changes; 3)draw your own conclusions.

Grain Milk Meat Fruit Vegetables Total

1986 49% 10% 17% and 24% 1987 47% 11% 20% 22% 1988 46.5% 11% 22.5% 20% 1989 45% 12% 23% 20% 1990 45% 13% 21% 21% 100% 100% 100% 100% 100% Changes in People's Diet

As can be seen from the table, great changes have taken place in people's diet over the period from 1986 to 1990. The consumption of grain, the main food of people is decreasing year by year, while that of some high-energy food, such as milk and meat, is increasing steadily.

There are two main reasons for these changes in people's diet.First, with the economic development, common people earn more money, so they can afford milk and meat. Second, more and more people come to realize the importance of a balanced diet to their health and they need to consume a certain amount of milk and meat.

From the above-mentioned,we are very glad to see that the living standards of our people are being improved. But on the other hand,if people eat too much high-nutrition food, some problems will arise. In my opinion, we should always keep balance in our diet.

3 Directions: You are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition based on the graph below. Your composition must be written according to the following outline:

1) Rise and fall of the rate of car accidents as indicated by the graph. 2) Possible reason(s) for the decline of car accidents in the city. 3) Your prediction of what will happen this year.

Your composition should be no less than 120 words and you should quote as few figures as possible.

The Escalation of Childhood Violence in America

The bar graph shows the increase in the number of adolescents, ages 10 to 19, who died from violence between 1987 and 1991. The number of children killed by guns, ages 10-19, rose from 1400 in 1987 to 2200 in 1991. The total number of U.S. homicide victims, ages 10-19, was 2100 in 1987, 2400 in 1988, and 2800 in 1991 respectively.

American adolescents committed so many murders for some of the following reasons. A five-year study by the American Psychological Association found that the average child has witnessed 8,000 murders and 100,000 other acts of violence on TV by the time he or she has completed sixth grade. Moreover, an astonishing number of children either own a gun or know how to get one. Therefore, the widespread availability of firearms makes it far too easy for kids to kill and to be killed.

To cure this social disease, we need to focus on prevention. The best place to begin is in the home where children should watch TV under the guidance of their parents so that they will not imitate anti-social acts. Next, to manage anger, kids should be taught to cool their emotions by dealing with a dispute nonviolently. For example, if they can’t reach an agreement, they should try to negotiate a compromise. The most pressing task, however, is to get guns away from children. By doing so, can we have a better, safer and healthier atmosphere where children can well grow up.

4 Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition of no less than 100 words on Reasons of Car Accidents. Study the following graph carefully and your composition must be based on the information given in the table. Write three paragraphs to: 1) Describe the graph of the number of car accidents in the city; 2) Analyze possible reasons for this phenomenon; 3) Predicate future tendency.

The number of car accidents in this city fluctuated during the year of 1990. It increased in the first three months and decreased in the following three months. After that, the number of car accidents went up again. In August, the number reached the top. Since then, car accidents had been reduced remarkably. There were only 16 car accidents in December. There were several reasons for the decline of car accidents in the city. First, some new roads were built and some narrow streets were widened, which reduced the flow of traffic. Second, a new traffic law was made and came into force. The new traffic regulations laid down in the law are stricter than the old ones. Third, the city administration strengthened the education of keeping traffic rules. People, especially drivers realized the importance of keeping the rules. From the rise and fall rate of car accidents in the graph, we can predict that the rate of car accidents will go on falling because the new measures afford some guarantee.

5 Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition of no less than 100 words on Income Sources between Chinese and American Students. Study the following table carefully and your composition must be based on the information given in the table. Write three paragraphs to:

1) Describe the differences of the income sources between Chinese and American students. 2) Analyze possible reasons for these differences. 3) Predicate future tendency.

Source of income Percentage of Total Income American students Chinese students Parents 50% 90% Part-time job 35% 5% Fellowship or Scholarship 15% 5% Income Sources between Chinese Students and American Students

Income sources of Chinese students are quite different from those of American students. In China, students get 90% of their money from their parents while in America, only 50% of students` money is provided by parents. In addition, Chinese students earn only 5% of their money from part time jobs and 5% from fellowship or scholarship while income from these two resources for American students takes up 35% and 15% respectively of their total income.

I think there are probably three reasons for their differences. First, because of the influence of different social and family values, Chinese students have formed the habit of asking for money from their parents while American students have developed more sense of being financially independent. Second, most Chinese parents devote too much care to their children and they would rather save up to afford their children’s education rather than encourage them to take part-time

jobs. But in America, many parents pay more attention to developing the students’ ability of self-reliance, so they encourage their children to find part-time job to earn some money by themselves. Third, since America is more developed than China, it is relatively easy for students to find part-time jobs. In China, such opportunities are rather rare.

I believe with the development of China, more and more Chinese students will realize and pay more attention to the necessity of self-dependence. In addition, more and more opportunities will be provided for them to take part-time jobs. Therefore, more students will go out of the ivory tower to broaden their knowledge and to become the master of their own lives.

假设你是李明,请你就本校图书馆的状况给校长写一封信,批评本校图书馆的书籍数量、环境、服务等。

A letter to the University President About the Library on Campus

Dear Mr. President, I am Li Ming, a junior student from the Department of Accounting. I am sorry to occupy your precious time, but I really want to talk about the university library. Our library seems to be getting worse and worse ever since last semester. The books are so limited that they seem to remain unchanged year after year. To make matters worse, the environment is becoming more than worrying at the moment. It is true that we have large reading rooms, but it is neither clean nor bright. It seems to us that no one ever wants to clean up the rubbish or repair the broken lights. The service is also far from satisfactory. The librarians are so indifferent and cold that they would rather stand still than help us readers. It seems to me that all they have to do is reading newspapers and chatting with each other. The library is vital to the education of every student on campus. The deteriorating environment and unsatisfactory service have aroused concern from all the students. I hope you can help to put an end to this situation and restore our confidence in our university library. I am looking forward to your reply. Sincerely yours, Li Ming

As a student of this university, I would like to take the opportunity to express my appreciation for your kind assistance as always. Meanwhile, I feel that it would be beneficial to express my

views concerning the quality of the library service.

In the first place, I find that most keyboards of the library computers are in poor operation, which brings much inconvenience to the users. I would also recommend the library to improve the efficiency of purchasing new books and subscribing to academic journals. Last but not least, the study rooms need to be furnished with a better lighting system. I hope that you take my suggestions into serious consideration.
