dear isabel,
it was certainly grand（出色的） of you and tom to come and see me off（为我送行）! i know it was not easy for you to get to the airport at such an early hour(早起), so i appreciate(感谢) it all the more.
flying over water can get dreadfully boring after the first few hours(几个乏味小时飞过了整个海洋), and your book of love stories came in very handy(方便). it was sweet and thoughtful(深思的) of you to think of it.
the flight was uneventful(平安无事) and we arrived in beijing on schedule(进度表). alice and adam met me at the airport, and went straight(径直) to their charming(迷人) little house. i know i am going to love it here.
i will write to you again, isabel. in the meantime, my thanks to you and tom for your much kindness(善良) to me when i studied in new york, and my love to you both, always!
